6.6 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Japan. Authorities have not issued any tsunami alert

  • An earthquake with magnitude 6.6 occurred Saturday morning off the coast of eastern Japan, close to the earthquake devastated by 11 March, announced the American Geological Institute USGS, adding that authorities have not issued any tsunami alert.

  • The quake struck at 4.26 local time (Friday, 19.26 GMT) at a depth of 36.2 km and at a distance of 108 km from the city of Hachinohe and 574 kilometers from Tokyo. Center for the Pacific tsunami alert said there is no risk of tsunami to cause major damage, but warned that an earthquake of such magnitude can trigger seismic waves locally.

  • We're very sorry for this and we hope in the future Japan will not be affected by more earthquakes and tsunamis.
